Therapy for Postpartum, Grief, and Parenting Support —
Fort Worth & Online Across Texas

life gets heavy,
let me help you carry it

  • grief

It sucks to be a member of a club you never asked to be in. You're grieving, and there's no "right" way to do that.

When those heavy grief emotions don’t have an outlet, they come out in ways that are hard to manage. Irritability, exhaustion, numbness, sudden waves of emotion. It all feels overwhelming, but you don’t have to do this alone.

  • maternal mental health

Nothing makes you question your identity, sanity, worth, or relationships like becoming a parent. You can love your tiny human more than anything in the world and still feel isolated, overwhelmed, lost.

Motherhood is so much more than decorating nurseries and sleep training decisions. Trying to learn how to “mom” while also not losing the rest of you is hard. We can sort through this together - the mundane, the existential, and everything in-between.

  • expecting twins

Two babies at once is a whole different world. You're not imagining things - the twin mom gig can feel impossible.

You deserve support that understands the reality of multiples and can help you thrive, not just reassurance that you will "get through it."

  • parenting support

Parenting is like putting your own childhood in a pressure cooker and not knowing how on earth things will turn out. It shines a light on all your insecurities, old wounds, and hurts you thought you'd healed.

You need space to make sense of what parenting is bringing up for you, and to find practical ways to make real life with kids feel kinder and gentler for everyone.

about the therapist

empathetic grief counselor, offering online therapy for texas residents for grief and moms

Kim Garrett, MS, LPC, PMH-C

As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas, I have a passion for working with grief and loss and more than a decade of experience in that field. I also love to help clients navigating the emotions and identity shifts of parenthood or starting a family.

I know that finding a therapist can be stressful.

How will I know if I’ve found the right one?

With me, you will find that tears are welcome but laughter is too, sarcasm is appreciated (I happen to know a little bit about using humor as a coping mechanism), and I love the opportunity to use a good metaphor. I appreciate building a strong foundation with my clients so that you may be able to hear it when I point out your contradictions or challenge your thinking.

I believe that you are the expert in your own life, but I also think that if things were working, you wouldn’t be coming to see me. We will collaborate to build your personal insight into the why behind your behaviors so that, with this insight, you can work to form more positive coping habits that allow you to access joy and feel the entire spectrum of your emotions.

My clients appreciate that I bring my personality into session, give direct feedback, and maintain a warm and positive energy, even when we are talking about tough topics. I am not afraid to sit in the mess with you as we figure things out together.

most people wonder about these things
before starting

  • I do not take insurance, and my services are considered out-of-network. Many of my clients use HSA/FSA benefits, and some get partial reimbursement from their insurance when they submit the monthly superbill I provide.

  • Most clients schedule sessions weekly or bi-weekly so that support is consistent and progress remains steady .

That said, therapy with me is collaborative — if you think a different frequency would work better for you, we’ll work together to find the balance.

  • Babies are always welcome in session — whether you need to feed, rock, or check on baby, you do what you gotta do. Therapy can sometimes be easier when you have childcare, but I know that isn’t always possible postpartum.

For older kids, I recommend arranging childcare so that you can fully focus on yourself and get the most out of our time together.

  • The standard session fee is $165 per 50–55 minute session. Limited sliding-scale spots are available when needed.

  • I would say I am collaborative, direct, and human in my approach to therapy. My job is not to simply nod and validate. My clients find me to be an empathetic listener as well as an active participant, offering insight and asking questions that get you the meaningful change you’re looking for.

Clinically, I operate from an attachment perspective, meaning we look at relational patterns throughout your life (especially early ones) to better understand why you show up the way you do now.

I incorporate elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and even expressive arts or personality theories for those interested.

let's work together

If you’ve made it this far, you’re probably wondering how to get started.

You can book an intake with me by filling out this contact form. What happens in an intake, you ask?

Our first appointment is a 75 minute session that allows me to get to know more about you, your history, and what brought you to therapy. I like the longer appointment so that you don’t have to word vomit your entire life story at me in under an hour.

That being said you do not have to word vomit your entire life story! We will start where you are comfortable and hit the most relevant topics for you.

After that first appointment, we will discuss a frequency and schedule that works best for you. Many of my clients begin with a recurring weekly appointment as we establish care and then many taper off to bi-weekly or monthly as they feel capable. Some clients prefer to schedule from week to week, based on availability and need. There’s no expectation that one size fits all.

That can be arranged! Sometimes you just need a quick vibe check to see if we are the right fit. If we’re not, no hard feelings! Finding the right therapist is like finding a comfy pair of shoes. Sometimes you need to try on a few pairs and even walk around the block before you find the right fit.

I offer free 15 minute consultations if you have further questions or just want to see if we click. No need to prepare anything, just take a look at my current availability and pick a time that works for you.
